With 7 weeks to go before my book is published (it’s available for pre-order at the tasty price of £11.05 here on Amazon – CORRECTION it’s currently available for £9.45!!), Friday was an incredibly proud and landmark day for me. I was talking on the phone to Emma at my publisher, Hodder, and by a stroke of luck, the first copies of my book arrived on her desk as we were speaking. She was very excited and offered to post me a few. Obviously I couldn’t wait until the next morning so went straight to Euston to see it there and then!
I guess I was nervous because I can be difficult to please (!!) and so much work has gone into this book. But when I saw it, it literally took my breath away. You know me well enough to know that I am modest by nature but I have to say that I couldn’t believe how funky and gorgeous it looked.
It looked exactly how I had wanted it to: a lovely and warm book, chock full of great cookable recipes. It really is a book to cook from.
I wrapped up Archie’s copy and gave it to him, in front of Jo and my parents. He jumped around, screaming “that’s my book, my book”. Jo burst into tears. As did my mum. And my dad!
A wonderful moment as a family, one I will remember for a very long time. Of course, all this means nothing because the proof of this particular pudding will be in the eating and no-one can know what will happen, from a sales perspective, until the book is published. But at least I know one thing – after a crazy 12 months of effort and work by myself and everyone involved in producing the book, we really have produced the very best quality of product we possible could have.
And of that, I am very proud indeed…
Here are some photos I took of my first copy. I can’t take photos of the actual recipes until publication date, for obvious reasons. But there are 101 in the book, nearly 90 of which are brand new…
The book itself contains 192 pages.
