VIDEO - Cloudy Meatball Mess

Eaton mess is a great dessert on so many levels. First and foremost it is just delicious, always popular in this house. And secondly, it is so easy to make, and perfect for preparing with children. My local corner shop always seems to have meringue nests so this is one of my turn-to last minute puddings.

As part of my work for the new Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 film, I wanted to literally create a cloudy with a chance of meatballs dish – and these cloudy eaton messes were born. It’s all very figurative of course! The whipped cream and meringue provides the cloudyness – and we chucked in marshmallows for extra effect! The “clouds” come courtesy of maltesers… As you can see from the video, these were simple to make – and simply delicious to eat.

The Cloudy Meatball “Mess”

Makes 4 portions

You’ll need:

300ml double or whipping cream
4 large meringue nests
A large bag of Maltesers or similar round chocolate treat
A good handful of strawberries, hulled and cut in half
1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Marshmallows (optional)

  1. Whip up the cream (and vanilla extract if using) until it is nice and thick.
  2. Break the meringue nests into the cream (don’t be afraid to leave some good-sized chunks in there) and gently mix it all together.
  3. Add in the strawberries and maltesers (saving a few to put on the top of each serving).
  4. Scoop the mixture evenly between four glasses and top with extra maltesers, strawberries – and cloudy marshmallows if you fancy.
  5. Serve immediately.
